Building A Wooden Boxcar

It was suggested that I needed more train to pull behind my American loco & tender and the gas car so I decided to do a wooden boxcar, something in keeping with the 1860s vintage.

The frame is a simple 1x2x.01" steel tube to accept Tom Bee couplers with 1x1x.01" end pieces for support and to attach chains and hooks.

The body is made from 1/4" Baltic Birch ply with a 3/4 plywood floor and 3/4x3/4 clear Fir framing.

The roof is also 1/4" ply with Fir framing for strength.

The doors are also 1/4" ply and the tracks milled from clear Fir.

The next task is to  finish the roof.
